There are many attributes to consider when choosing sourcing options, some more obvious than others, such as hourly rate. However, when evaluating the true costs of sourcing, leading organizations also look at other critical factors associated with business-critical projects--such as agility, integration with other operations, security risks, scalability, public image, and business understanding-- that can make all the difference to ensuring successful project outcomes.

Communities rely on their local policemen and policewomen to keep them safe, protect their property and preserve the peace. But few citizens really understand the dangers that officers face every day, especially patrolling and answering calls in vehicles or on foot. While their training provides them with tactics and procedures, situations and individuals are unpredictable. From accidents to health emergencies, domestic violence to theft and assaults, police must perform in high-stress, volatile environments and make the right decisions in seconds. The Internet has proven to be a vital communications medium for worldwide commerce, but as an open and unprotected global network it can also present a wide range of threats that can cripple any business organization. Several years ago, most Internet threats were relatively benign examples of a young adolescent’s technical expertise but over time they have evolved into increasingly sophisticated domestic and foreign attacks that are designed to capture financial, personal, or strategic business information. Threats now come in the form of deliberately malicious acts, and exploitative opportunities for hackers and/or organized crime. The impact is serious, and the landscape of victims is getting broader every day. In response, no organization can afford to have its networks remain unprotected.

Protecting a business – including its information and intellectual property, physical infrastructure, employees, and reputation – has become increasingly difficult. Online threats come from all sides: internal leaks and external adversaries; domestic hacktivists and overseas cybercrime syndicates; targeted threats and mass attacks. And these threats run the gamut from targeted to indiscriminate to entirely accidental. Like many security trends and frameworks, the early stages of adoption often involve inconsistent definitions, challenges with justification and management communication and an unknown path to implementation. In this white paper, we: • Review the current threatscape and why it requires this new approach • Offer a clarifying definition of what cyber threat Intelligence is • Describe how to communicate its value to the business and • Lay out some concrete initial steps toward implementing Intelligence-Led Security

Tax evasion is the largest economic crime in the world (in terms of monetary loss), costing trillions of dollars to governments around the globe. A 2011 study by The Tax Justice Network estimates that on a global scale, total tax evasion is in excess of US$3.1 trillion, or about 5.1% of world GDP.1 And that’s just the known tax evasion and noncompliance; it doesn’t include the underground economy and cash businesses. The per-capita figure is similar in Canada, representing about $45 billion a year. The European Union loses an estimated €200 billion in value-added tax alone, not including corporate or excise taxes. Tax evasion represents 4 to 5 percent of gross domestic product in Sweden and Japan.

Since the global financial crisis of 2008, stress tests have taken on growing importance and prominence in financial institution supervision and regulation. These tests, designed to measure an institution’s ability to maintain capital buffers and withstand extreme economic shocks, were imposed initially, and primarily, on the biggest multinational firms – those designated global significantly important banks (G-SIBs) or financial institutions (G-SIFIs). However, the circle for supervisory stress testing has widened to include a growing number of banks as defined by domestic jurisdictions – in the United States, for example, down to banks with $10 billion in assets under the Dodd-Frank Act Stress Test (DFAST) rule. What’s more, stress tests and their underlying scenarios can be of considerable value as a strategic management tool to a financial services company of virtually any type or size.

The slap of cold water on an unsuspecting victim has been standard comedy fare for years, and it can make for an amusing scenario, assuming you’re not the one being doused. In an emergency situation however, non-tempered water is anything but funny. Exposure to domestic water temperatures in many parts of the country while using an emergency shower or eyewash has it’s risk- hypothermia and/or scalding. The International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) revised the Z358.1 standard to include a water delivery temperature range of 60° to 100°F. The heart of the tempered water delivery system is the mixing valve, which ensures that the safety equipment safely receives water at the required temperature.
